Using inexpensive makeovers for decorating is a better idea than spending all your holiday cash on your home. Window treatments, lighting, curtains and rugs are some of the cheaper ways to give your dining room a face lift. You can do most of these ideas in just a few days without having you home tore apart and in shambles. Consult your local retailers on the availability of the decorating ideas you want before beginning your project. You could be left high and dry this holiday season without your dining room table or without your chandelier to eat by if you don't check to see what is available.
The first time that you stencil you may want to try a few practice stencils on an old piece of paper or wallboard. Then once you get the hang of how much paint to load on your brush, you can take your newfound skill to the walls. As you experiment, notice which effects you prefer, and then replicate those on your walls.
Blank wall space doesn't do much to enhance the décor of any room, and in a dining room it can make the room seem cold and unwelcoming. To create a focal point, you can use one large item and accent it with smaller items or you can create a wall grouping with several smaller items. For example, you could start with a large painting, a wrought iron or an architectural wall hanging, a tapestry or mirror and accent it with smaller coordinating items, such as candle wall sconces, vintage plates or cast iron accents. Or creating a stunning arrangement with a visually interesting collage of smaller pieces: tie them together by color, theme, or material.
