Dining room chairs are usually offered as matching options to the table you choose. Most people buy no more than two chairs with arms that are usually placed on opposite ends. Side seating is usually provided by either a bench or individual chairs without arms, which allow that extra placement adjustment space when crowded.
By taking the size of your room into consideration, and understanding the rudiments of design and home décor, your dining room design can be optimized to make the best of what is available to you. By selecting the right size and style of dining room décor and furniture, your dinner parties can be the talk of the neighborhood - and that's before we even begin to talk about the food!
The first trick of the trade is to realize that a small space can look larger than it really is by painting the walls a darker color and leaving the ceiling white, wallpapering with stripes or adding a large mirror to the wall. If you can't paint or poke holes in the wall, then think about how you can make the dining room table and chairs different.
The lighter the wood, the less space it seems to take up, although obviously this is only an illusion. You need to leave at least 4 feet space between each side of the dining table and the walls or other furniture, and also a minimum of 24 inches between chairs. That should be enough information to enable you to work out the size of table you can fit in and how many people you can seat. Don't try to get away with less space, or your guests will feel squashed and uncomfortable.
If you decide to go for hickory for your dining tables, you've made a good choice. These are comforting to look at, and do not at all appear dark in any room. It can light up an entire dining area, making it look casual and accommodating. There is something very homey about hickory kitchen tables, and guests will love coming over during mealtimes because they will always feel welcome in your home.
