It is always advisable to take the accurate measurements of your dining room and carry the sketch with you as go around doing the shopping for a dining room decor. Make sure you emphasize the special features in your sketch such as plug and outlet location, wall space, height and any other special features you may want to emphasize in your dining.
No matter which part of the house you are redecorating, it is always important to think through every decision, no matter how small or insignificant it may be. The whole point of redesigning an area of your house is because you want it to give off a different feel or vibe, maybe even recreate a certain time in history, if you want. For this to happen, you need to be consistent in your choices and not be easily tempted with different designs as you want to come up with a look that is consistent and not cluttered with different wild styles.
If your space is defined and separate from the other rooms in your house, you can still benefit from the use of area rugs. An area rug under a table gives an immediate sense of polish and flair in your dining room. Using a colored rug will brighten your room immediately. A dark, patterned or bamboo rug will give your room gravity and center. If you do not wish to have a rug under your table, consider placing a rug runner along one wall of the room, or between different entrances to the space. Moving the table out of the center of the room and allowing a rug to take up some of the extra floor space will immediately change the feel of the room's structure. Utilizing runners can direct traffic flow or showcase a china cabinet or other focal point in your dining room.
