Create a multi-purpose eating space that can be used all day long. Even if you have plenty of space, make the room a true entertainment destination full of things to talk about. Build bookshelves and line them with games to pull out after dinner or place books on them that are sure to get your guests talking. And, when you don't have company, you can use the room as a reading room. Place a cozy lounge chair in one corner to curl up and show that room really is used and loved.
First thing to decide is the type of style you're pursuing. Having your dining room and kitchen both in the same area allows for a more productive Tuscan or country approach. A minimalist approach on the other hand can bring a feeling of space and it's common for the home decors of Asia. If however both rooms are separate you are presented with the choice of random themes.
The colors used in the dining room should stimulate the appetite and stir conversation. It is a known fact that reds, yellows, greens or any of the other earth colors are stimulants to the appetite. Picture your favorite meal and the colors that are incorporated on the plate. This will give you a good idea of what will stimulate the appetite. For the conversational stimulation, contrasting colors that set each color off to look its best will create conversation, along with wall decorations that catch the eye.
On the table itself, there are several ways to create something that will stir conversation. For a birthday, a collage of pictures printed on the placemats that show off each milestone year of the guest of honor is a way to create conversation. For other holidays that incorporate a religious theme, there are several ways to place things in the room's interior that will stimulate conversation, such as a small Christmas tree that has a gift for each guest under it. Color combinations of the holiday season are a way to incorporate a color palette that is appropriate for each seasonal celebration that will be held in your elegant dining room.
The dining room table can offer lots of space saving options. For example, a round table is much better in a small spot than a square one. It offers your guests easier access to the table. The same is true with a pedestal round table, which does away with standard legs while opening up the space visually.Speaking of opening up the room visually, consider a table that has a glass top. This will open up a small space even more.
