Choose Your Furniture Carefully- If you will be entertaining frequently, choose a very solid wood. The darker the wood the better, as it is often easier to disguise any stains that may accidentally occur. A harder wood will often withstand scratches and dings, but may need more frequent polishing to keep it looking beautiful.
Your dining room table should also compliment the style of your home. One part of the dining room table that will make quite a statement is the table's legs. These can dramatically affect the overall feel of the room. Consider the large, ornate legs that are often found on some dining room tables. This type of table will not work well in a room that is intensely feminine or one a décor that is "dainty."
In contrast, rooms with a more relaxed atmosphere usually present medium or lighter shades of wood with wide grain patterns. Sideboards and hutches also appear quite often in the informal room, but they are also of a lighter shade than the mahoganies and dark pines of their formal counterparts.
Lighting: It is a good idea to use dimmers for the dining area. Differences in lighting can dramatically alter the ambiance of the dining area from warm and intimate to bright and friendly. Dimming the lights gives you the option of adding candles to the table setting so that you can create a wonderfully romantic setting for special occasions.
How many dining room decorating ideas can you come up with? There are a lot of them like table sets, chairs, rugs, window treatments, lighting and ceiling fans. These don't have to be costly; you can make minor makeovers like window treatments and lighting that are relatively cheap. The window treatments can include shutters, curtains and drapes and the lighting can include ceiling fans or a simple drop light. Then there is the expensive renovations you can do like carpeting and new furniture that can really hurt your bank account.
