Color Palette: Do not assume that because a color is your favorite, it will also look good on the walls of the dining room or create a harmonious whole with the dining room furniture. Also, when choosing a color palette, understand that what looks good in the day in natural light may not necessarily look as good or even look the same in artificial light. In general, colors such as reds, oranges and yellows work to create a more formal atmosphere while colors such as golden or creamy yellow, terracotta, wine, burgundy or dusty rose are considered ideal for a dining room. These colors are said to stimulate the appetite and also have been shown to promote enjoyable conversation.
If you're into a modern art style of interior, then glass dining sets may be the way to go. Glass furniture very easily becomes the obvious centerpiece of whatever room it sits in, and its transparency makes it a sure bet for many other types of interiors too. But you do have to ask yourself something: is style the most important aspect to you? For example, if you have kids, then safety will of course come first. But this does not mean that you can't have a stylish dining furniture. An elegant glass/marble combination tends to look excellent, and is hardly going to be breakable by a child.
Create a multi-purpose eating space that can be used all day long. Even if you have plenty of space, make the room a true entertainment destination full of things to talk about. Build bookshelves and line them with games to pull out after dinner or place books on them that are sure to get your guests talking. And, when you don't have company, you can use the room as a reading room. Place a cozy lounge chair in one corner to curl up and show that room really is used and loved.
